Entreveux

Entreveux is an old medieval town about 75 minutes train ride from Nice. It has a very old Citadel that dates back to roman times, as well as an old Church and the standard old town. It was a beautiful day, and our little train wizard really wanted to ride the train. Everything else between the outgoing and return train trips was just time filler for Jeff ! Connor liked the trip because he got to be carried most everywhere.
As medieval towns go, Entreveux was OK. The Citadel was indeed old, but it was covered in graffiti, run down, dilapidated, and full of danger for kids. The old church was much nicer, but the village was plain and had little to offer. Most of the other cities we have visited are much more worth the trip. But we had fun anyway since the views were spectacular and we were with people we knew. So here are some pictures of the trip.
Here is a picture of the Entreveux train station with Patti and the boys.
This is a picture of the Citadel. Naturally, since it is from Roman times, it is on top of a huge, great hill. Great for defending, poor for out of shape locals like us who have to haul two kids to the top. It's a bit hard to see, but you can see the gray stone walkway up the side of the hill. Jeff made it up the first two sections, then wanted to be carried the rest of the way. That meant me. By the time I got to the top it looked like I'd been swimming. But Jeff was full of energy and then wanted me to chase him around the grounds. I almost had a cardiac.
This is a beautiful picture, mostly because of the people in it, but the scenery ain't too bad either. This is at a rest stop on the way up to the top. You can see the windy road that people use to drive to Entreveux and the further recesses of Provence. You can also see the river and the old village down below.
Patti and Connor look out one of the windows on to the valley below.
This is a picture of one of the streets down in the old village. It was probably the nicest street we saw there.
We had a picnic lunch and here is Connor running through the grassy fields.
Finally, here is a picture of the whole family with the old village in the background.
