Visitors !!!
Ah, visitors !! Those people who help keep us connected to the motherland. So far, we have been waiting for some. But our first visitors arrived May 13, 2001, Mother's Day in the U.S. Now that the first guests have arrived we are expecting a steady flow of arrivals through summer and fall. This page is meant to document all the visits made by people to our little Villa.
Joyce (Mom) and Dick
October 3 - October 16, 2002
After 3 tries, one derailed by September 11, Steve's mom and her husband Dick arrive on the Côte d'Azur. Here they are getting the red carpet treatment and the Palais du Congress in Cannes, followed by a few pictures from Monaco, the first with Jeff outside the aquarium and the second overlooking the harbor in downtown Monaco.
Ken (Dad) and Jo with Keith and Roberta Crowther
September 7-September 16, 2001
Steve's dad and Jo came out for the second and brought their friends Keith and Roberta Crowther with them. After a swing through Spain the travelers stopped in Mandelieu to visit. Now Keith and Roberta are our friends, too ! Here are Keith and Roberta in Nice, up at the chateau, overlooking the actual town.
Below is everyone enjoying a nice dinner at a restaurant in Cannes.
Vicki Ross
Aug 30, 2002
Vicki was the day care provider for Jeffrey and Connor back in California. She always takes the Labor day week off for vacation. This year she came out to see relatives in Italy and stopped in to spend the night with us before leaving for Italia. Here is a picture of Vicki at dinner in Valbonne with Patti and Jeff.
The Bury's (Pierre, Anne, and Alexandre)
Aug 14 -Aug 18, 2002
Earlier we said the Bury's were honorary visitors because we met them at Euro-Disney. But in August Pierre, Anne, and Alexandre actually came to Mandelieu for a visit. Here are some pictures.
Here are having dinner at La Piaza in Cannes.
Waiting for the fireworks in Cannes.
Patti and Anne in St. Paul du Vence.
Grammie (Ellie) and Katie
Feb 8-Feb 17, 2002
Patti's mom and sister Katie came out to visit in February. It is a really good time to visit as there are no crowds and you can see all the same sights without dealing with the crowds and traffic. Plus, it was the school break, so Jeffrey was off for two weeks. And it was Carnaval time, too. Everyone, except poor Steve who had to work, even made it over to Italy to visit the family ancestral grounds in Portovenere. So everyone had a nice time, though a few days of rain towards the end slowed us down, but didn't stop us. Here are some photos of the welcoming committee
The Duo having fun at Carnaval and Portofino.
Ken (Dad) and Jo
August 8-August 19, 2001
Steve's Dad and his wife Jo came out for a visit as well. They arrived August 8th and immediately left the next morning for Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Such a hard life ! Here is a picture of the duo in St. Tropez, which we took the boat over to one day.
Eloise and Danny Reed
July 9-August 15, 2001
Eloise and Danny are the first family to visit. Eloise is Patti's sister and Danny is Jeff's and Connor's cousin. They just got their first taste of French pizza! Here the dynamic duo are in front of a fountain in Antibes. The photo on the right is waiting for the Bastille Day fireworks on the beach in Cannes.
Heath and Isabel Chiavettone
July 7-July 9, 2001
We picked up Heath and Isabel at the Cannes train station as they had spent the previous week touring around Italy by train. They came well out of their way to visit us in France, but I think they found it worthwhile. They got to spend some time on the beach, go to Cannes, Nice, and St. Paul du Vence. Here is a picture of Heath and Isabel in St. Paul du Vence. On the right is the boys with Heath and Isabel at the beach in La Napoule. Then us having a bit of lunch.
Larry Callahan
July 3-July 8, 2001
Larry flew out and spent a day in Paris, then hopped the train out to Versailles and met us there. We toured the Château and then Larry got the pleasure of driving back to Mandelieu with us and the kids. We then took Larry to Cannes, Nice, St. Paul du Vence, and to a 60's soiree at the Château La Napoule. On the left is a picture of Larry and Patti on the grounds of Versailles, overlooking the large fountain, canals, and forests that make up the palace grounds. On the right is Connor, Patti and Larry having a glass of wine by the pool.
Pierre, Anne, and Alexandre Bury
July 1-July 3, 2001
Though technically not visitors yet since we actually met in EuroDisney, the Bury's get on this page anywhere due to their high standing. We spent the 3 days together having lots of fun enjoying the Disney magic. Here are some pictures. Pierre is the one in the funny hat in the left picture.
Here are the three boys in the diner we had breakfast in.
Andrew and Angela Peters
May 13-May 18, 2001
Andrew and Angela flew out from the US just to see us, which we greatly appreciated, and made even more special by the fact that Angela is 7 months pregnant. Steve and Andrew know each other from their times on the swim team at Cal Poly. That was a long time ago ! The goals for the week were to drink red wine, eat cheese, and visit old, medieval villages. Those goals were accomplished ! We downed 5 bottles of red (Haut-Medoc, Pomerol, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape) on our best day, and tried about 12 different cheeses, ranging from the dry and mellow to a cheese that gooped out from its crust when cut. Yummy ! We visited St. Paul du Vence, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Orange, Saint Tropez, La Napoule, the beach, and, of course, Cannes. Here are some pictures from a lunch in St. Paul du Vence. There are more pictures under Events and Places as well.
